Google account access for Windy Vault
What Windy will ask Google for when you connect a Google account, why, and what it will never do with it.
Coming soon. Not available yet. Today no Windy product connects to your Google account. This page describes what Windy Vault will ask for when the feature opens, so you can read it before you are ever asked.
What Windy Vault is
Windy Vault will be the place in your Windy account where you connect outside services, such as Google, for the AI helpers you have authorised. You decide what is connected, and you can disconnect it at any time.
The Google permissions we will ask for
Exactly these three, and nothing broader. Connecting is always your choice; Windy Word works without it.
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.sendWhen you choose to connect Gmail in Windy Vault, we will ask Google only for permission to send email on your behalf. We will never read your inbox, your drafts or your contacts. Windy Vault will keep the connection so Windy can send an email on your behalf when an AI helper you have authorised asks for one you wanted sent. Each send will be recorded in your activity list (the time and which helper, never the message text).
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.eventsWhen you choose to connect Google Calendar in Windy Vault, we will ask Google for permission to create and change events on your calendars. Google’s permission also technically allows viewing and deleting events, so Windy will limit it: a helper can only ask Windy Vault to create or change an event, Windy will perform that single action itself and will not hand your Google access to the helper, and any deletion will need your approval each time. Every action will be listed in your activity (the time, the helper and the kind of action; never event titles or text).
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.freebusyWindy may also check when you are free or busy on your Google calendars, only to avoid double-booking you. It will see busy and free times, not event titles or details.
What we will not do
- We will not ask for permission to read, draft or change your Gmail messages.
- We will not use your Google data to train AI models.
- We will not use your Google data to build profiles or to advertise.
- No one at Windy will read your Google data unless you ask us to, or it is needed for security or to follow the law.
The use of information received from Google Workspace scopes will adhere to the Google User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How your Google access will be kept
Your Google access will be stored encrypted in Windy Vault. It will never be handed to a helper and never shown to a chat model: when a helper you have authorised asks to send an email or change an event, Windy Vault will perform that single action itself.
Managing and deleting your Google access and data
You will be able to disconnect at any time from the Windy Vault card on your Windy profile page. Windy will ask Google to cancel the access and will erase its own stored copy, which stops Windy from sending email or changing events for you. You will also be able to remove Windy Vault in your Google Account permissions.
Windy Vault will store only your Google access (encrypted) and your activity list. It will not store the text of emails sent for you, event titles or details, or free or busy results. The steps, and what happens to your data, are on Your Google connection in Windy Vault.
Windy Calendar is separate
Today, Windy Calendar does not use Google sign-in. It can import your busy times from a private calendar address in iCal format that you paste in: one-way and read-only, about every 30 minutes, busy start and end times only. The address is stored encrypted and erased when you disconnect.
How Windy handles your data is set out in our Privacy Policy. Questions? Write to [email protected] or see Support.
